Revolutionizing Recycling, One Container at a Time

Tritan Renew crystal clear plastic in Rubbermaid Brilliance products is made with 10% recycled material and certified through a mass balance approach. Mass balance is a chain-of-custody method that allows recycled and virgin fossil-based materials to be blended during manufacturing.

Through this process, Eastman, our supplier of Tritan Renew plastic, tracks and allocates the recycled content across overall production to ensure the amount of certified recycled material we purchase is accounted for in the system. This approach supports the use of recycled materials while maintain the high clarity and performance consumers expect from Rubbermaid Brilliance products.

Containing the Science

For food storage products, purity matters. Traditional mechanical recycling washes, chops, and melts plastic into reusable plastic, leaving potential contaminants from the original plastic in the new finished product. Advanced recycling breaks plastic down to its molecular building blocks, removing contaminants before it's made into new material.

This process allows the recycled content to meet our strict standards required for food contact, so you can feel confident using it in your kitchen.

While it’s not possible to guarantee how much renewable content is in each container (due to the mixing process), our suppliers provide certificates confirming the amount we’ve purchased to be used in the clear plastic in Rubbermaid Brilliance products.
