So glad I found this! Much better than fabric bag
I've purchased numerous fabric car trash bags over the years, but they were never very useful because they're impossible to conveniently access in your car. The only place I could find to put the fabric bags was hanging from my gear shift, but the strap was always too short when I secured it with the velcro that comes on it, and way too long w/out the velcro. Plus the flap that covers the bag was in the way of being able to put trash in it without using both hands to open it. Needless to say, I couldn't put trash in it regularly & could only make use of it once my floorboard filled up with trash & I could park somewhere to pick it up & put it in the bag.
The Rubbermaid trash bin solves all of those problems...I love it! The adjustable strap hangs perfectly on the headrest of my passenger seat, where I can easily reach over (with one hand) & open the lid VERY EASILY & put trash in it. As somebody whose car functions as an office, having an easily accessible trash bin makes a HUGE difference in KEEPING trash out of my car! I'll admit that I am HORRIBLE about keeping the interior of my car clean & neat, but as long as I'm able to keep trash out of it, that's all that really matters. I used to receive comments about all the stuff & trash in my car from anyone who looked or rode in it. At first it didn't bother me, but at times it got a bit embarrasing, so I love this solution. Also, when I have a passenger getting in my car, I can reach over (with only 1 hand again) & swing the bin to the back of the passenger seat so it isn't in the way of my passenger.
I usually empty the trash bin while I'm getting gas (in the trash cans by the gas pumps.) I removed the attachment on the front of the bin that can hold trash bags...I like the idea of keeping the bin lined, but it definitely turned out to be a hassle because I couldn't keep the bags from falling down in to the bin. Also, the attachment would fall off when I swung the bin around to the back of the passenger seat. For me, the Rubbermaid trash bin works flawlessly without the attachment on the front of it. I have spilled a bit of sticky liquid at the bottom of it, but that can be easily fixed with some cleaner & a paper towel.
